Providing a Virtual High Street Environment
Let’s take cursory glance at what the High Street environment consists of. Goods and services have to be bought and paid for. Goods and services have to be properly merchandised and sold, and adequate arrangements must be made for payment. Cash is still very popular as many people in the world either do not qualify for, or do not a have an alternate service available to them.
Taxes and rental fees have to be taken care. Customer care and support must be provided at the highest levels. On-going business with the applicable nich must be assured. How do we do this in the virtual world?
We will take a look at the issues one by one. The buying of hard goods is not necessarily performed on the Internet. If you are selling the produce from your allotment or market garden your supply problems all but disappear. But if you are selling software or an intangible service then you may require an expert in the field to guide you along what might become a somewhat tricky sales path.
If you are selling clothes or cosmetics then visuals and imagery are all-important just as they are on the High Street. The disadvantage is that a lot of customers want to feel the product on their skin. You need really good words here.
Payment can be thorny issue. As aforementioned not everybody can pay by credit card. There are alternatives such as payment gateways, but even these can be difficult for customers with no access to a bank. PayPal and Money bookers are generally very flexible and easy to use, but still may have their difficulties.
Taxes are not a problem if you are selling outside you own country. If you are selling domestically, make sure you have a good accountant. The only rental you have to be concerned with is the fee for your website.
Remember, though, that this is virtual too and there is no bargaining foe extra time to pay. Customer is the biggest issue of all and must be considered very carefully in the e-marketing plan satisfaction.
